Yes, your phone number might get banned at any time for no reason. I created 3 accounts that all got banned instantly after verifying the verification code, but you might get banned at any point in time or just be unable to open a Taobao account.
The account I use is 5 years old and it seems like these "legacy" accounts are not subject to the same scrutiny.
